First up, no bashing.
If you have no interest in the PS3 or the only interest you have is to flame, please do not post.....

So my PS3 console review....

So I setup my PS3 yesterday.
Out of the box I had:
Console
1xSixAxis Controller & Usb charge Cable
Power cable (no brick)
Rf & Scart attachment.

I had bought a Mobile Phone Bluetooth headset for £5 on Amazon and already dug out an old Mouse & Keyboard.
Also I bought a PS3&Wii>>PC Monitor cable.

The physical setup took seconds and then 5 mins to calibrate my PC Monitor.
Next I had a 5 minute Profile setup for both my gamer profile and internet connection.
Once done I was greeted with the main menu.
The menu contains everything you would expect...access to the Blu-Ray dvd player (with hundreds of 'tweakable' options), the memory manager (where you can create virtual Memory cards for PS1 and PS2 games as well manage downloaded files/games), the theme and picture controller and everything else conceivable.

I then turned on my Bluetooth, matched the signal and registered it to the PS3, took all of 20 seconds and it isn't even a headset designed for gaming!!! Amazing.

Keyboard and mouse followed and again worked faultlessly! Quickly sent friend invites to a load of my friends from Plymouth with happy smiley, almost girly messages to confuse the hell outta them (heck, my profile is a pink Loco Roco blob!!!)

So my next step was to visit the PS3 store which was set out nicely like a website. I added a CCard and added £10 to my account (none of this M$Point crap, just upload cold hard cash!)
I chose All Games, then Shooters and had the list of all DLContent and Demos for the PS3 shooters. Saw a bunch of PS1 and PSP games for sale here also starting at £3.99!
Oh adn there are loads of themes and gemerpix...all free!!

I queued Haze (Demo), Resistance (Demo), Genji DoB (Demo), Folklore (Demo) & PAIN (game). Set them all to download in the background then tried out the browser.

The browser worked great. After tweaking the settings to change screensize and resolution I added my favourites (Facebook, here, Ebay, Hotmail, Xbox.com etc etc) and had a browse...worked beautifully!

Now a few of my demos had finished downloading so I went to play them and waited a few moments for them to install (by doing this it prevents what would otherwise be a slow-downed mess apparently).

2 mins later I started Haze and tried it out....damned it looks nice!
The graphics are excellent, weapons feel nice and meaty and the atmosphere is very nice too!
Finished the demo in an hour or two then started Resistance. This one shows it's age a tad but was good (albeit very hard) fun Smile Excellent weapons though Smile

Next I tried Folklore which is a nice little action rpg with some beautiful graphics Smile

Finally I tried Genji and my god this game is gorgeous! For a game that is a few years old it easily matches anything I have seen on the 360 in 1080 Smile Quite good fun also.

So my initial forage into the world of PS3 is a shame-faced one.
I was caught up in the defence of the 360 more out of self-denial due to all the issues I have with the frikkin console (3 broken 360, hardware dropping off, Themes vanishing, Oblivion plugins becoming unstuck!) but now that I view it with an unbiased eye I realise that it is miles above and beyond what the 360 has going for it.

The tiny things are what count, the fact so much can be tweaked and there is even the option to install alternate OS', emulators and all manner of things such as that!

I love my 360, she's a bitter ungrateful bitch who often refuses to put out when I am most game-horny, but I have seen the another side now, one that has so far been hidden by my own stupidity and it is as good, if not better, than that which I have come to love so far.

Am I going to quit playing my 360..hell no.
Am I gonna spend more time on my PS3 than her...for a while yes as I have all these new games to go through now.

But I will not be cutting all ties....I am still a Crusader at heart and will be here to spot the enemy for you all as often as ever (well, as soon as everyone stops playing Call-of-bloody-Duty 4!!)

Games played now:
Haze: 8.5/10
Very pretty with a great story delivered very well. Long SP and MP is good fun too Smile

Resistance: Fall of Man: 7.5/10
Much better than I expected. Goods story again, gameplay is also good, but a tad outdated now but weapons are excellent!

LAIR: 8/10
The mix of Analogue and 6-axis works really well. Strafing runs are amazing and the variance of mission is pretty wide also.
Again, much better than I had expected.

Motostorm:9/10
Quite simply the most fun I have ever had on  driving game! The tracks are amazing, the vehicles handle very differently from each other and, be it 6axis or analogue, controls are excellent.

Genji: Day of Blades: 9/10
Excellent music, fun combat system and the 4 characters are varied and interesting. Graphics are a clear 10/10...fan-loody-tastic!!!

Just 2 more days and MGS4 will be out.
Besides the fact there are a lot of long cut scenes (which brainless kiddies don't like...ADDs obviously.) it has got damned good reviews.
The clips and gameplay vids I have seen are frankly mindblowing and I am, for the first time in years, reeeally excited about a game!!!
It's gonna be soooooo kewl Smile
And the fact it comes with MGSOnline also, which looks equally amazing, is an added bonus!

If anyone is interested, go to youtube and do a search for "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot - Gameplay Demo" and it should be about 15 mins long.
Oh....My.....God.
just 3 days to go!!!

Haha, Ryan try not to cream yourself ok? Razz

Shame MSG4 isn't coming out on 360, I always liked the series even though it was virtually the same plot in a new setting and the action went from stealth stealth stealth stealth stealth aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand GUNS!!...and some stealth when you get hurt a bit.

But lets hope its as good as it looks!

Just met Raiden in the game, saw him taking out Irvings and fighting Vamp...god he rocks now Smile
Oh and MGS4? 10/10 so far, best game I have played in absolute yonks!
The FMV's are lengthy but interactive and keep you gripped with story and character revelations!
Combat is faultless and there is just so much you can do!
Controls are fantastically easy to get to grips with when yuo consider the wealth of moves at your disposal!
Graphically it is a bit drab and grey to begin with (due to the intial locations) but now I am in the streets of Europe at night it is simply breathtaking!
Only quibble, when Snake gets shot he makes an 'urgh' sound. When shot by a machine gun he sounds really weird going 'urghurghurghurghurghurghurghurghurghurghurgh'!
Definately a game that is gonna sell a lot of PS3's!

Ok, I played MGSO last night for a few hours.
All I can say is wow, wow indeed.
Graphically it is the same as MGS4, beautiful animation, character models and the maps are simple, but pretty.
You start up, create a Konami account and get allocated 1 character slot (you can buy more but why bother?)
Then you create their look with head, body, legs, jacket, vest, trousers, masks, accessories, gloves, boots etc etc etc
Next you choose him a voice and then a selection of skills (Ranging from various weapon types like Assualt Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Knives etc) to more Sons of the Patriot ones (Which mean that if I see an enemy, they appear as a red silhouette on everyoe elses screen so share the info).
Now I only played 2 games on 2 particlar maps but they very much reminded me of Kill House on Rainbow Six Vegas.
You start the match (I was hosting as always) and choose:
1. Main weapon like M4, Dragonov, SAW etc.
2. Pistol
3. Backup item like a set of Frags, Flash grenades, Claymores or a Porn mag that by reading refills some health!!!
You start in a Team zone with shield for about 5 seconds and then fan out into cover.
The fantastic thing is that it really felt like I was playing Paintball due to the sneaking around into cover and pearing out from cover into the bunkers, demolished buildings and broken walls across the way.
I saw an enemy in the distance and so dropped prone and crept towards him. He turnen my way so I quiclkly equipped my 'Cardboard Box' that comes as default and luckily was croaching next to a wall so it didn;t look out of place (they are littered all over the map).
He thought nothing of it so I then Mr Wolfed forward in the box and finally popped up and grabbed him from behind and cut his throat.
After that my teammate and I worked to high ground and started to pick off the enemies weith sniper fire.
Eventually the enemy relaised where we were so we went back to the floor and spread out into cover and defended each other.
Eventually it was 12 to 0 for us Smile
I have to say that this game is fantastic. The feel of the game is exciting and it is not open to campers thanks to the open nature of the maps and the shield period.
Also the weapons are all very nicely balanced and the players (so far at least) seen series about the game and not just lobbing grenades willy-nilly like CoD4 became eventually.
The fact that you can crawl in shadows and stick to walls for camoflague just adds tot he fun.
Loving this game, both SP and MP and best package I have yet bought on any next gen console.
I am so glad though that I am playing with other people in their late 20's and intot heir 30's+ as they seem more eager to work as a team and now run off on their own.
As much as I love playing games like Chromehounds and Resistance with more of a 'for fun' emote, this game needs proper teamwork to be truly fun Smile
Already there are loads of updates planned also...both for new charaters, models, weapons etc Smile

So a score for this one is a clear 10/10, much like MGS4 itself Smile

Any online game can / will have team work. A game is what you make it, I could play MGSO and bring a completely effective and different play style to what was going on in your match.

To be fair this game sounds like RB6V and that just became Captain Blands Monotonous Adventure (<3 Yahtzee) because of how slow it is. I liked the single player of MGS 1 & 2 but this online bit just sounds like RB6V in the MGS universe with a Cardboard box from Fed Ex.

I guess slow paced FPS' just aren't for me.

I have to admit, MSGO does actually sound quite fun. I always enjoyed the single player series previously and to translate that effectively to multiplayer would be great. I admit, like you HaeZen, generally I prefere the fast paced fps, there's more action, excitement and a real test on my abilities on the spot however slow paced fps, where more (i use this term with a pinch of salt) 'realistic' teamwork is required can be just as exciting change of pace.

Good as it sounds though Ryan, its not enough to make my buy a PS3 Razz..... especially if the FF series continues on in the same way that number 12 did... ugh. Liking the reviews however!

I think that is the difference though.
As you all know I have always preferred the slow methodical style of play, hence my love of Thief & Tenchu etc!
Also I have found it nigh-on impossible to get any form of teamwork going on a fast paced fps and I am not a hugely competitive person anymore.
I used to be when I was a teenager but as times have changed I care more about having a good, fun time than ensuring the other players are pwnd.
I know a lot of you find the latter the cause of your enjoyment and that's kewl brutha, but it aint for me.
I guess this is why I got rid of CoD4 and Shadowrun so quickly, just too damned competitive for me.
I want teamwork dammit and this game has it in spades!
