Ventrilo is a chat program that creates servers which people can join and then talk with other people within that server. Its commonly used in games where no voice chat function is avaliable but you want to talk with your team mates in a way that is faster than typing. Guilds in World of Warcraft often use Ventrilo servers to talk when doing high level Raid dungeons.

In Quake when we are playing in Leagues we sometimes go to TeamSpeak which is pretty much another version of Vent to communicate easier. Plus both my leaders are Swedish and I take the piss more than I do pass information.
