I am fine with slow-paced and fast-paced games, as my love for TF2 and Civ. Rev. Shows, as I can do the five minute blast-a-thons and plan my hour long attack from sea and land on enemy strongholds. _________________
Notice I said I don't like slow paced FPS', not slow paced games. Quake was my very first FPS and before I even played that all I played were RTS' and RPG's.
I still love my RTS' and a few RPG's but when it comes to FPS I just have to be on the move constantly. I do more thinking in a FPS than I do an RTS, which sounds strange but then an example would be when im playing CoD and any of you send me a message and I never reply? It's cause im thinking too much on the current situation in game.
Thats why I don't like things such as RB6, I don't think enough, because you don't need too. You just hug a wall and wait for someone to run round a corner and he moves in almost slow motion esque, you kill him he comes back, grenades you, and your screwed because you run too damn slow.
But again it all depends on how you play the game!
When next you see Andy, get him to recount the most successful room clearance in R6;V2 history!
You can play a game like that as intelligently or as generically as you want!
Same with MGS4!
there's one bit that really had me stumped where you have to get through 3 different multi-branching corridors to a large open loading bay and through an airsealed door (it's on a ship).
Sounds easy enough but when you add a huuuuge squad of elite guards, all armed with P90, grenades and the ability to jump massive distances and climb walls (they aint nicknamed Frogs for nothing) and a group of 3 Geckos (huge 2 legged mechs with heat sensors, insane agility and indestructible armour guarding the bay itself, things become a little more interesting.
Oh and the ship is on high alert btw
I tried sneakingit all but kept getting seen when unlocking the door.
So then I gun stormed it and never survived long enough to get the door open.
I wont go into too much detail on how I did it but suffice to say it took a lot of planning and thinking.
So again, not to everyone's taste but it gave me a fantastic sense of accomplishment when I finally got that damned door open and escaped, what was, the very start of that mission!
incidentally, I have now finished MGS4. Best ending ever to a game, quite possibly the single most finest game I have ever played and one of the saddest ending too.
Never thought I'd say this but for drawing you in and making you care about the characters it surpasses FFVII tenfold.
On play though 2 now (you keep a lot of your stuff) so going all gun ho now and actually picking a side _________________
Well what I said was:
You can play a game like that as intelligently or as generically as you want!
Not:
You can play a game like that as intelligently or as fast paced as you want!
so I am not saying fast paced games are generic, I am simply saying that any game can be played Intelligently or without any intelligence, even a slow FPS (I have seen people on terrorist hunt running and gunning with extremely limited success and others succeeding rather well with it too ) _________________
Bought Civilisation and Unreal Tournament now.
Will be worth you guys getting UT when it comes out, it is very good.
Civ is ok too, which is strange as my hatred for RTS games is well documented. _________________
That's your opinion, I was stating someone else's. Just because it's different to yours doesn't mean it's wrong. Hitler.
Nein, im nothing like Hitler.
Well.. No, no im not.
Fu.
Yeah Metal Gear Ray looked stupid but it was still annoying in MGS2 fighting 7 in a row with limited Stinger Ammo then going on to fight Snakes older brother in a Sword Battle directly afterwards.
